Tasmanian Dairy Products (TDP) has announced its third step-up in farmgate milk price for the 2012/13 season.
The announcement follows step-up payments in November last year and February this year.
TDP Chief Executive Officer Tony Catania said the price increase of eight cents per kilogram of butterfat and 20 cents per kilogram of protein would be paid to TDP suppliers on 15 June 2013.
“Importantly, as this is our third step-up for the season, it now brings us in line with the Murray Goulburn milk price,” he said.
Mr Catania said TDP’s aim of becoming a leading milk processor in Tasmania remained one of the company’s highest priorities.
“With this in mind, combined with forecast market conditions, we are confident we will be able to deliver more favourable returns to our suppliers in the future,” he said.
“The forecast market conditions for the 2013/14 financial year show prices remaining firm and this will result in a much needed improvement in milk price compared to the current season.
“The unpredictability of the strong Australian dollar means we must exercise some caution, however, if the dollar continues to weaken we will see a further positive impact on milk price.”
Mr Catania said he was delighted that so many TDP suppliers and their families had attended the official opening of its milk processing facility at Smithton in March this year.
“The support we received from the local dairy farming community and other key stakeholders was very pleasing,” he said.
